ZIPFIRST
is a handy feature included in current releases of CUS software. It uses a
database provided by the USPS to convert the zip code into the corresponding
correct city, county and state. Since the USPS updates this database throughout
the year, we need to incorporate the updated database into our software
periodically. As long as you are licensed for the most current version of CUS,
you're entitled to the latest ZIPFIRST file.
To download the latest
ZIPFIRST file, you need the url address for the CUS Version 3.0/13.0 Support
Center, and the Version 3.0/13.0 username and password. If you're licensed for
Version 13.0 DOS or Windows Version 3.0, contact CUS at (954) 680-6545
or email for this information.
Then, follow these steps:
- Make sure you have
a current backup of your Mail files.
Again, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A CURRENT
BACKUP OF YOUR MAIL FILES. In case you're not clear about this, *** MAKE
SURE YOU HAVE A CURRENT BACKUP OF YOUR MAIL FILES ***
- If you don't already
have one, make a new folder on your c: drive called \custemp.
- Get online, go to the
Version 3.0/13.0 Support Center page and put in the correct username and password
given to you by CUS. Click on the file zipdata.exe and choose
to save it to disk. Save it in the c:\custemp folder. If it says
the file already exists in that folder, say Yes to overwrite it.
-
Then, from the c:\aucmail prompt, type:
\custemp\zipdata
-syourpassword
and press enter (using the same password
you used earlier). This will extract the zipdata.dbf file from
the zipdata.exe. If it says the file already exists in
that folder, say Yes to overwrite it.
-
When you get back to the c:\aucmail prompt, type
cd\ and press enter to go back to a c: prompt or type
exit to go back to your desktop.
Go into the Mail System. Go to the Fix Up Problems Menu and run
the Reindex function. Say Yes to reindex the Miscellaneous file only. You're
done!
If you are on a network station, substitute your network drive letter in place of the
c: above.
If you are unsure about doing this by yourself, please call (954) 680-6545
or email for help.
If you do not update to
the newest CUS version when it's released, the ZIPFIRST feature will stop
working when the zipdata.dbf database expires. Once that happens,
you will give up the use of this convenient data entry feature, and have to
return to entering the city and state manually. To stop the software from continuing
to remind you that the ZIPFIRST feature has expired, make sure you have a
current backup of your mail files, and then carefully delete the
zipdata.cdx, zipdata.dbf and zipdata.exe files from
your \aucmail directory. Once you do this, the warnings will stop.
